In 1954 the US passed tax exemption legislation that prohibited tax exempt entities to engage in certain kinds of political activities.
From a speech by Adolf Hitler, 1935. National-Socialist Party Conference:
But under no condition whatsoever will the National Socialist State permit religious denominations to engage in political activities, whether these activities be a continuance of the old tradition or something started afresh.

This is one of those times when you wonder if the mainstream media is worth even a lick. I learned on WND yesterday that for the 2010 census they’ll be getting the GPS coordinates for every residence in America. This process has apparently begun. It is difficult to conceive of legitimate uses for such a database and very easy to conceive of abusive ones.
Worrisome point one: The Obama Administration has moved to take direct oversight in the census this time around.
Worrisome point two: The census will make no distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. Funding and districting could be skewed.
Worrisome point three: Acorn has been contracted out to help with the 2010 census.

This report is likely to produce the very thing it is warning about. With this report, every conservative American became subject to the Thought Police and a target of scrutiny by the Federal government. I believe it will put some people over the edge. I believe the intent was to put them over the edge. I think they want a ‘right wing extremist’ to engage in some sort of attack so that the Obama administration can then use the sensibilities of all those law-abiding citizens to turn public opinion against anyone with strongly held views about abortion and government and ‘hate.’ They will use any kind of incident as a justification for the imposition of the gun laws we know that the Obama administration would like to pass, and then, when people react, they can point to that reaction as justifying the need for the gun laws. It will also be used to justify increased monitoring of the ‘extremist groups,’ as well as any number of measures which if they were proposed today would make even the tea party participants blow their top, but if passed after an ‘incident’ would compel them to re-consider. Because they are decent people.
And decent people are the easiest to manipulate by authorities.

We live in a world that has witnessed the Holocaust, the gulags, and the Killing Fields. It is no longer possible- if it ever was- to wholly distance ourselves from politics. The stakes are too high. However, it is probably coming to the point (if it isn’t there already) that we finally and fully part company with a party that has parted with us at some indefinite point in the recent past.
On the other hand, the idea that politics could replace other things that we should have been doing all along was dangerous and the current climate makes people more willing to hear that then they used to.
What are the things we should have been doing all along? My short answer is Love. My long answer is that most of the things that Christians contend with each other about pointless in the grand scheme of things. A future day is coming when we will look back at this time and wish we would have invested our time on more pertinent issues. These things will be more obvious when we are fighting compulsory education (no longer able even to home school), treated as deviants (religion is a delusion, you know), punished as child abusers (for teaching our children about hell), and bred out in the next rise of eugenicists who with fanfare announce the discovery of the ‘religion gene.’

I am just a lone voice out in the wilderness, on the front lines between belief and unbelief, a scout if you will. I am reporting to you generals that that situation is dire, and worse, you are currently sending troops to fight over hills that the Enemy has long abandoned. You continue to defend the Maginot Line while the Enemy blitzkriegs right around it. The only difference is that the French knew they had been flanked, while you continue to face the troops east. They’ll be in Paris before you know it and I am convinced many leaders of the church will be shocked: “What? Didn’t we send reinforcements to our line of fortresses? How can this be?”
In the face of this counsel I have been accused of all sorts of things- legalism, self-righteousness, hubris, and even heresy. Well my friends, the proof is in the pudding. Barna has been warning us about this for some time and as the article above illustrates, he isn’t the only one.

The trajectory of our course leads to a fate that would fully justify despair.
These are themes that I have been covering in my apologetics ministry. To counter the ignorance regarding Christianity my ministry launched an online apologetics academy. ‘Non-judgmental’ affectations are covered every week on this blog. As for the ‘poisonous propaganda’ my ministry’s Christian writing contest is geared specifically to spur on Christian authors so that they can help turn the tide from the midst of the very belly of the beast.
Sowell describes this trajectory, asserting with conviction that a few nuclear decimated American cities followed by a quick American surrender is along that path. Perhaps. Yet I perceive that the problem is that America has already had ‘bombs’ dropped on it and the surrender occurred long ago. The time for action was probably long ago. When Americans agreed to go with the whole ‘income tax’ thing, when they allowed the creation of the Federal Reserve, when they allowed the conditions that culminated in Roe vs Wade to persist. Today we reap the consequences of these and many other ‘bombs’ and act surprised, as though the trajectory could not be plotted and predicted.

I had an invigorating debate this evening with a gentleman who took issue with my analysis regarding the potential overthrow and occupation of the United States, per my book series, Birth Pangs. The blog entry the gent was replying to was my own critique of some Russian analyst arguing that the US is due to collapse in 2010. Apparently the vital flaw in my critique was that I didn’t reject outright the possibility that the US could disintegrate, ever. We are so big and mighty, goes the argument, that we will never be overcome by foreign foes. More likely in this gent’s view is that America descends into another civil war.
While I personally rejected the Russian analyst’s view, it is important to understand why: Igor failed to predict or specify a catalyst. This is what the gentleman who inspired this post himself overlooks: a ‘catalyst’ can happen at any time. We have no assurances for the future. Anything can happen tonight, tomorrow, next week, or next month. At that point, all bets are off. Yes, even for America, ‘big and mighty.’
My Birth Pangs series skips over the 50 to 100 years between now and then and sprinkles catalysts throughout but more importantly links actions and beliefs with consequences- consequences which a study of history and human nature render almost all but inevitable. Inevitable, that is, if nothing is done in the meantime, or when certain points of decision are reached, the ‘right’ decision is made. ‘Right’ decisions are predicated on there being people with the ‘right’ mindset. Ensuring that the ‘right’ mindset exists at that time requires groundwork be laid far earlier… say, now.

You may have arrived here searching out this Latin phrase from my book, Fidelis, the first in my Birth Pangs series. If not, you might want to consider picking up said books! “Praestet fides supplementum sensuum defectui…”Or, in some translations I’ve seen, “Faith supplies what the senses cannot…” But I am no Latin scholar. We […]
