Recording of this Tuesday’s Debate on Faith, Evidence, Atheism, Rob Bell, and Hell

At the last ‘Knights of Contention’ discussion this last Tuesday we began by talking about faith, evidence, atheism, and Christianity, of course and ended up talking about Rob Bell and hell.  Naturally.  🙂

Here is a link for viewing that discussion.  It was about 2 1/2 hours long.

There will not be a discussion the second Tuesday of April as I will be preparing for some presentations and a conference as well as recuperating from the online apologetics conference my own ministry hosts April 7-9.  Details. continue reading...

Knights of Contention Debate: Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence?

This ministry hosts a regular online round table discussing matters of substance and controversy.  Christians and NonChristians are invited but it is not necessarily an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ debate.  Past topics have included matters of controversy only amongst Christians and due to the flexibility of the discussion, topics can change on a dime.

The next discussion will be Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at 9:30 p.m. CST.

The initial topic will be:  “Is it really the case that ‘extraordinary claims’ require ‘extraordinary evidence’?”

Knights of Contention: Challenges Apologetics Can’t Answer

Tonight, Feb 22nd, at 9:30 p.m. CST we will host our next semi-regular “Knights of Contention” online discussion using voice, video, and chat.

The Opening Topic:  The 5 Challenges Apologetics Can’t Answer.

Due to the wide scope, this conversation can go anywhere.  I have summarized the 5 challenges below with links to each of the 3 parts in which I have detailed them.

PZ Myers Should be Fired for Labeling Aborted Babies as ‘Meat’: A Debate

Tomorrow night, Tuesday Feb 1st, for our next Knights of Contention, we will debate the following proposition:  PZ Myers Should be Fired!

[The debate is over.]

His latest incendiary remarks involve dismissing unborn children (he calls them fetuses) as mere ‘meat’ that practical, scientific minded individuals are indifferent to.   He also made news for his over the top, foaming at the mouth mockery of the Catholic faith regarding the elements of the eucharist smuggled out by what appeared to be a budding atheist activist.   PZ Myer’s frequently visited blog is permeated with crude, rude, crass and sometimes positively fascistic ravings.   … continue reading...

PZ Myers: People are Just Meat, Deal with It

HT Mariano

PZ Myers continues to descend down the various stages into madness that atheism can lead a person- that is to say, like the religionists he despises, he also believes every lick of what he says he believes.  In a recent blog post writing in reaction to an email from a pro-life person, he writes:

“You want to make me back down by trying to inspire revulsion with dead baby pictures? I look at them unflinchingly and see meat. And meat does not frighten me.”

On PZ’s view, we are all meat, whether we are diced and sliced or … continue reading...

Knights of Contention Recording #3

Last week we debated:  “What is the definition of Christian?”  Here is the link to the recording which gives you a taste of the conversation as it unfolded.

On account of the thanksgiving holiday, we are skipping next Thursday and having it on Nov 30th, instead.

We are taking topic ideas now.… continue reading...

Tonight’s Knights of Contention: Are Lutherans Christian? What about Catholics, Baptists, and Cats?

Tonight, Nov. 9 2010, I’ll be hosting our third “Knights of Contention” real time streaming audio/visual debate.  Direct link to the ‘debate hall.’

There is no requirement that you actually speak.  You will want speakers to hear any conversation.   You will want a microphone if you want to dialog via voice.  A webcam is ok, too, but not required.

Tonight’s topic:  Just what is a Christian?  Are Lutherans Christian?  Are Catholics Christian?  What about Baptists, atheists, Mormons, or cats?

This will be the initial topic but its pretty fluid and informal and who knows where we’ll end up.

Previous Knights … continue reading...

Knights of Contention, Episode 3

Not too long ago, I began hosting what I hope will be bi-weekly open discussions via chat/voice.  Another one is coming up.  Tuesday, Nov 9th, at 9:30 p.m. CST.

The topic has not yet been decided.  Last time we debated whether or not we should exterminate the human race.  And if that would be wrong.  heh heh

Here is the direct link to the conference ‘room’ where the conversation will take place.  I’ll be in there in the evening to help people with technical problems and the like.  Direct Link:  Knights of Contention

If you want a reminder, drop a … continue reading...

Upcoming Knight of Contention

Last week I began hosting what I hope will be bi-weekly open discussions via chat/voice.  Another one is coming up.  Tuesday, October 26th, at 9:30 p.m. CST.

The opening topic will be  “Peter Singer and James J Lee are/were right about exterminating the human race!”

Click on the links for more background.  James Lee, if you have forgotten already, is the man who was shot and killed while assaulting the Discovery Channel HQ.

The topic can go anywhere, even if we start somewhere.  🙂

Here is the direct link to the conference ‘room’ where the conversation will take place.  … continue reading...

Recording of first KnightCon Debate

A couple of nights ago I hosted the first of what I hope will be regular, bi-weekly discussion events using real time video conferencing software.

The recording of that event is available here.

Note, it is unedited and is a very informal setting.  You can fast forward, and I suggest you do.  Length is about 3 hours.… continue reading...

Knights of Contention Semimonthly Philosophical Free for All

UPDATE:  Nov 9, 2010.  Topic:  “What is a Christian? Are Mormons?  Atheists?  Catholics?  Lutherans?  Etc!”  Direct Link to Debate Forum:  Here.

—————-

Those who know me know that I like a good scrap.  Well, I thought it would be fun to host a bi-weekly event where people from across the spectrum of thought can get together and converse in a chat/voice conference format on topics of interest and importance.

So, I have set aside the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at 9:30 p.m. CST, to hold this discussion.  Expect each session to go from 90 … continue reading...
