Castrate, and then bid them be fruitful- reflections on a cowardly cruise ship captain

The 24 hour news cycle is currently devoted to the ‘Italian Titanic’ and especially the fact that the captain of the ship beat the passengers off of the boat.  Naturally, the captain is everywhere being referred to as a coward, and every indication is that he really was a coward.

I couldn’t help but think of the quote by CS Lewis in his book The Abolition of Man, where he writes:  “In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh … continue reading...

Richard Dawkins: Give me the Child and I’ll Give you the Man

Posted to The ChristianPost.com

Religious leaders are well aware of the vulnerability of the child brain, and the importance of getting the indoctrination in early.  The Jesuit boast, ‘Give me the child for his first seven years, and I’ll give you the man,’ is no less accurate (or sinister) for being hackneyed.

The above quote comes from Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion in the chapter titled “The Roots of Religion.”  I was thinking about that chapter when I heard that Mr. Dawkins was putting out a children’s book.   Has Dawkins decided he needs to get into the ‘indoctrination’ business?… continue reading...

C.S. Lewis on Universal Health Care and the Love of Some

I was reading CS Lewis’s The Four Loves and came across the quote below.  Obviously, Lewis is not specifically addressing universal health care or liberalism or the question of using the government to administer love.  Even Christians can be found thinking that it is a noble expression of a loving society to have the government do the loving… and this with no apparent thought to the actual effect that this ‘loving’ will have on the people ‘loved’ and the attitude it fuels in the people-government doing the ‘loving.’  The most important thing seems to be that, well, people’s intentions are … continue reading...

Wisdom is Proved Right by Her Children; Evil Proved Evil by His

This weekend I read one of the scariest things I have heard coming out of the Global Warming crowd.   [That link has disappeared, so here it is on Internet Archive] That is saying something.  I have documented elsewhere on this blog some other things they’ve said, like comparing denying man-made Global Warming to denying the holocaust.  This is so disgusting I almost sat down and wrote a book exposing the various principles at work in it but stopped when I thought of at least one that is already written:  C.S. Lewis’s The Abolition of Man.

In summary, the … continue reading...

Rand’s Atlas Shrugged as Template for Today’s Liberal Lunacy

This morning’s post is inspired by this Wall Street Journal article.   Essentially, Moore argues that the government is currently engaged in exactly the kind of behavior witnessed in the book.

It is uncouth these days to say anything even slightly critical about the president-elect, excuse me, the Messiah.  No one wants to hear it.  The mass opinion seems to be that we should all at least swallow our partisan tongues for a little while and “Wish Obama a Successful Presidency.”

We are not permitted to ask exactly what would constitute a ‘success’ in Obama’s eyes.  For I certainly do … continue reading...
