Barna Reflects on 6 ‘Megathemes’ Killing the Church

Not too long ago I created a website called The Death of Christianity.  Its intent was to distill into one place my thoughts regarding the crisis facing the church today.    These thoughts have developed after almost 20 years of Christian apologetics, but I bring to bear numerous studies to show that my perceptions have reflected a true reality.  This week, Barna published another article detailing 6 ‘megathemes’ they had detected through surveying in 2010.

Three words Christians abuse: church, worship, love

The title of this post does not do the matter justice.  The word ‘abuse’ is too mild, and it might be even more accurate to say that in actual fact the sweeping trend within Christendom is that there is outright plain ignorance on what these terms mean.  The charge only matters at all to those Christians who believe that the Scriptures are the final and ultimate authority.  A huge swath of people who call themselves Christians obviously don’t, so this post is not really for them, even though they share in the guilt.   Of course, the term ‘Christian’ itself is … continue reading...

Should Churches Adopt a No Child Left Behind Approach?

The statistics have been coming in fast and furious that Christianity is in rapid decline in America.  Barna continues to warn us.  Another recent report indicates that Christianity has dropped off 10% in 15 years.  Two years ago I made the controversial claim that the Church was creating atheists.  I am not so sure this is controversial anymore.
