Apologetics is the Answer to Abortion and Euthanasia and other Life Issues

Not too long ago I posted an essay asserting that ‘apologetics is the answer to everything.’  Even then I had in mind to discuss the relationship between apologetics and life issues such as abortion, euthanasia, eugenics, etc, but fought off the urge to elaborate on it.  Now is my chance.

You know, for most of my life, even during my ‘liberal’ years, I have more or less been pro-life.  This became personal when the doctors asked my wife and I if we wanted to ‘terminate’ our child, diagnosed that morning with spina bifida.  But I have always been … continue reading...

Family Values: Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

A friend posted a pretty interesting essay today on family values I submit for your reading.   I liked it and don’t have much objection to it.   After detailing the prominence and priority of ‘family values’ at communicating Life he makes this statement:

Luther summed it up succinctly: love and serve God; it falls to the contemporary pastor and Lutheranism to put his phrases in context, with the understanding that it begins in family.

I thought it was interesting that, with the understanding “that it begins in family” Pastor Kelly begins with the contemporary pastor (and Lutheranism).

To be fair, I … continue reading...

A couple of books to review

I received in the mail today two books to review… reminding me I’ve got a review or two yet to write!  Argh!

To whet your appetite, let me say that both of these books appear to be solid and their respective websites look worthy of your investigation.

The first book is Rational Conclusions by James D. Agresti.  This appears to be a thorough and cumulative apologetic for Christianity drawn from multiple disciplines.  His website is www.justfacts.com.   Find the book on Amazon, here.

The next book, by Dr. Edgar Andrews, is called Who Made God:  Searching for a Theory continue reading...

Apologetics is the Answer to Everything

Some Christians will begin seeing red just from reading the title of this entry.  They will be angry and annoyed and may even jump up out of their seats.  Therefore, let me say it again:  apologetics is the answer to everything.

Whether it be the rapid decline of the Christian Church in America, the brisk acceptance of homosexual ‘marriage,’ the prevailing and deepening culture of death, the shallow spirituality of many of the Christians who actually remain in the Church- and certainly much of the lack of action- and many other issues can track back to nothing less than disobedience, … continue reading...

Book Review: “We Chose Life: Why You Should Too” by Anthony Horvath

Book Review by Mary Ann Kreitzer

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare — hearing the words, “You have a very sick child.” For a dad, it’s particularly difficult because his job, besides providing materially for his family, is to protect his loved ones from harm. But when illness strikes a child, a dad often stands helpless to “fix it.” Decisions about dealing with a critical illness in an already born child are difficult enough, but when that illness occurs in utero, parents are faced with another issue. The question is inevitable – “Will you keep it?” Since Roe v. Wade made … continue reading...

Presentation: Abortion is Just Politics and Pro-Life is Just Religion; and Apologetics

Thursday, Apr. 29th,  at 12:30 p.m. CST, I will be presenting on this topic:

(Round two in progress… 2:23 p.m. CST, direct link)

Just Politics?  Religion and Abortion and Apologetics:  Examining the idea that supporting abortion is merely a political view but opposing it is a religious view and the role of world view in the question.

Summary:  Pro-choicers often frame their argument by casting their position as a civil rights issue and the pro-life position as a religious issue- and people should not impose their religion on others.  Common sense would suggest that as two sides of the … continue reading...

Randall Terry is Wrong, Choose Life is Not Pro Choice

Randall Terry, a prominent pro-life activist released a press release a few minutes ago that says among other things,

“‘Choose life’ is a ‘pro-choice’ message; it presumes it is ethically and legally legitimate to choose murder.

This is nonsense.

I do agree with him that we have as an ultimate goal the end of legal abortion and also that the Tim Tebow ad will probably be fairly ‘warm and fuzzy’ but it doesn’t follow in the slightest that it is implicitly a pro-choice assumption.

My wife and I have a story very similar to the one that Terry is denouncing.  … continue reading...

BREAKING NEWS: Today 150,000,000 pro-lifers woke up and DID NOT kill an abortionist.

Just as in the last 35 years the almost iron clad rule has been that tens of millions of pro-lifers, who nonetheless believe that abortion is murder, have almost as a rule, not killed abortionists.

A 1 to 150,000,000 ratio comes pretty close to a ‘rule’ to me.

I’m just saying.… continue reading...

gun control needed to stem abortionist killings in churches

It has been noted that Dr. Tiller was gunned down in his church.  It is a wonder that no one has proposed the obvious:  more gun control is necessary.  Allow me to be the first to call for it publicly.

The first thing we need to do is make it illegal to have guns in churches in Kansas.

Then we need to make it into a crime to single out abortionists for murder.  We should tack it onto the Hate Crimes legislation coming down the pike.  There is nothing worse than hate inspired murder.… continue reading...

Despicable Trends in Bioethics Inevitable Result of Secularism

Every now and then I read something that really get on my nerves even though nothing any more surprises me.  Recently I came across a man named Jacob M. Appel and his stomach turning positions.  Now, as I mentioned, it doesn’t really surprise me.  However, I think it may be a surprise to some folks… I here think of some atheist friends who laugh away my assertions that there are certain aspects of atheism and secular humanism that logically, if not inevitably, degenerate into certain positions and attitudes.  However, I am also thinking of some fellow Christians who think you … continue reading...
