Why Sticking it to Big Business Sticks it to the Little Guy

Reality.

Call me quaint, but I believe we are obligated to conform our beliefs to the actual world around us.  It was chiefly on account of this that I felt compelled to take a perspective that we today call ‘conservative.’   There is the world we wished we lived in and there is the world that we actually live in.  Another way of putting this is:  people are as people are going to be and no social engineering will ever change what people are.

A Warning to the Tea Party to Resist the Urge to Tinker

Obama has been on a tear, raging against the Republicans that they are the ‘party of no.’  From a recent speech:

“There were no new policies from Mr. Boehner. There were no new ideas. There was just the same philosophy that we had already tried during the decade that they were in power — the same philosophy that led to this mess in the first place: Cut more taxes for millionaires and cut more rules for corporations.”

If only this were true!  If only the GOP were eschewing new ideas and holding tenaciously to the perfectly good old ones!  … continue reading...

I am my child’s advocate; you aren’t.

I am my child’s advocate; you aren’t.

I know my child.  This child is mine.  Mine to protect and mine to cherish.

You are quite convinced that Immunization X will not harm my child.

But then you send my child home.  We live with the consequences.  You don’t.

You say that only this few out of this many will have a reaction.  This few is acceptable to you.  You don’t take them home and live with them.
