My own loose ends, Watson and Herr Professor

I breezed into Herr Professor’s lair to see if there was anything I ought to respond to.  I too enjoyed the exchange, though I wonder if he ever really appreciated the points I was making.  Things could go round and round, but that is what I have a discussion forum for.

At risk of setting off another wave of responses from the good Doc, it is worthy of reflection is a set of assertions in one of his later remarks where  he concludes that since I highlighted the fact that Watson denounced the quotes put in his mouth, I no … continue reading...

DOH, one last reply on Watson and the Professor

He posted another reply and I’m not going to respond to it in full.  I saw this nonsense, though:

if he weren’t so motivated to spread the slanderous insinuation that non-Christians have no ethics.

This shows, I think, that the Doc isn’t really reading my entries because I am not arguing that non-Christians have no ethics.  Indeed, the sillyness of such an accusation is exposed by remembering that I advocate that there is an objective morality.  That would mean that everyone does have ethics.  The question is… can atheism explain why people do have ethics, and why the ethics are … continue reading...

Final Reply to Herr Professor on Racism

Herr Professor has issued yet another response in our saga of talking to each other without actually talking to each other.  This will be my final comments, unless the Professor in seeking the last word says something truly outrageous.

There are only a couple of points that are worth addressing.

In the first place, he thinks he still has got the upper hand in his view that I am siding with Watson’s allegedly racist remarks.  I am glad he returned to the original article, as it is a fine corrective to his accusations.  He gives several quotes which he … continue reading...

Watson, Racism, Evolution, Herr Professor, Reprise

Well, I suppose at some point this cycle of responses between Herr Professor and myself is going to have to end.  I thought it kinda funny to basically be in a conversation with the gent, but of course in the abstract, where I pretend that my comments are to some ethereal group of readers of my blog when in fact they are actually directly mainly at him.  At some point, I guess you just got to move on.

He has posted some thoughts again derived from my original post about Watson’s embarrassing comments linking genetics to intelligence.  If you start … continue reading...

More Watson, More Racism, More Herr Professor

This exchange is developing some history, but if you start at my entry that started it all and followed the track backs I think you will cover. I now respond to Herr Professor’s post, here, which if I may say is much better thought out than his first entry, but still misses some important points.

I really must deal with this “Horvath is a racist insinuation” that came out of his first reply. In the article that I cited, Watson does not argue from Darwinism to racism, rather he argues that there genetics may have an effect on intelligence. … continue reading...
