Apologetics is the Answer to Abortion and Euthanasia and other Life Issues

Apologetics ministries tend to focus on issues such as God’s existence or the fact of the resurrection or the Bible’s reliability. These are all very important. Indeed, they bear directly on the issues at hand- for if there is no God, it obviously follows that we cannot be made by him in his image. Further, Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection on behalf of a fallen human race is an emphatic testament to how much God himself values each human life. Dispense with these, and there are ripples down the line.

There, however, is where I wish to make the point: there are ripples down the line.

Somewhere I read once that in the 1700s they went after God. In the 1800s, they went after Jesus. In the 1900s, they went after Man. The sequence is logical, rational, and predictable. One would like to think that they can dispense with God without there being practical effect, but the 1900s have shown otherwise.

Should Christian Parents Encourage Children to Believe in Santa Claus?

So, you see that despite my own counsel I’ve found that in my household it had to be toned down a little bit. But I think this is telling, as well. The fact is that humans love Myth, they love the fantastic, and they eagerly wish that there was a flying gift giving Santa Claus- as well as pixies, faeries, and superheroes with superpowers. This is an indication about the true nature of humanity, to be repressed at our own peril. In fact, I think its safe to say that the natural tendency is to believe in the fantastic and it requires persistent stomping by adult cynics to get rid of- if it can be gotten rid of at all, which I am not convinced is possible. Even atheists love Myth, so much so that besides enjoying many of the great myths of our time… Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Dune, etc, they’ve created a few of their own.

Natural Versus Revealed Religion: How Atheists Drop the Ball

It may sound like ‘reducing’ much of the Bible to human revelation about special revelation I have greatly diminished its veracity but in truth what this move does is place our testing of the Bible’s claims into the same category of testing that we use for any other historical claim. In other words, it is the atheists that raise special challenges against the Biblical texts (ie, ‘Extraordinary claims…’) while Christians worth their salt are merely asking atheists to employ the same standards of evidence and proof, the same principles of reasoning, the same sense of fairness, that we apply to any other claim.

In Defense of Antony Flew’s Positions Against Richard Carrier’s Slanderous Chutzpah

The letters I received from Flew that I discuss below have been released in an ebook.  This ebook contains this essay as well as a few other remarks looking back on this tempest in a teapot.  You may buy this ebook using the links on this page (Kindle, etc.)  To my knowledge, Richard Carrier has …
