The Jaffe Memo, Part 4: THEY mix religion and politics! – The Hyde Amendment

In Part 3, I promised to give an example of the totalitarian attempt to suppress religious expression in the public sphere.  Here we go.

Consider the HARRIS v. McRAE Supreme Court case of 1980.  This case revolved around the Constitutionality of the Hyde Amendment.  You will recall that Roe vs. Wade had made abortion on demand a ‘fundamental’ right in 1973.  Those who opposed abortion worked swiftly to at least ensure that government money, in particular through Medicaid, would not be used to pay for abortions.  This was the Hyde Amendment.

According to Plan Means trusting the Planner

Naturally, when you get through Dawkins’s attempt to create a universal moral code apart from religion, he wants to add his private view that a little more flexibility about sexuality would be nice… so he adds that into his preferred new ’10 commandments.’  C.S. Lewis speculated that it is “Thou shalt not commit adultery” that burns people the most.  They can live with the ones against murder and theft.

Some introductory Remarks

Welcome to my Christian Apologetics page. This site is a long time in coming and is born of many debates- both online and off. I personally nearly abandoned the Christian faith in college. For all I know, I did. God only knows. I did this deliberately. That is, disillusioned by my unanswered questions, I decided to forget all that I thought I knew and rebuild.
