It is a synthetic drug related to quinoline and is primarily used to prevent and treat malaria. Currently, it is sold under the brand name Aralen, and can also be sold as a generic medicine.
It can be prescribed to adults and children of all ages. Can also be safely taken by pregnant women and nursing mothers.
It is worth noting that hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are two different drugs but they are closely related and they are also both antimalarial drugs. These are FDA-approved drugs and currently, President Trump and the CDC praised the medicine as a possible treatment for COVID-19. This is because these drugs showed the ability to block coronaviruses from infecting cells in vitro.
